Bill Status: Sent to committee: HR 4138- House Ways and Means
S. 73- Senate Finance
What needs to be done?
At this point we need a lot of pressure to move the bill out of committee and on to the floor for a vote. In order to make this
happen our representatives need to know this bill means something to someone. What does that? Well, first and foremost our
representatives look to see if anyone impacted by the bill feels it is important enough to contact them. Then if it is important
they will want to know how important. Here is where it gets interesting, yes here is where money comes in, the representative
is looking to see if it was important enough to send money in to support the bill. He or she doesn't know how much money but
the numbers are reported to them as 200 against letters containing money, 400 against without money, 50 letters for
containing money, 600 for without money. Any guesses how many hospitals are writing as I write you? Want to guess how
many are sending money, do you think they are writing for or against federal mandatory staffing requirements?
We need to write the Subcommittees and let them know we care that the law is voted out of committee, both
Senate and House.

You have sent your emails in support of Mandatory Hospital Staffing now what?
Email your representatives in the House and Senate, better still write them and let them know this is important to you. You can
be as simple as saying "minimum staffing saves lives, keeps nurses in nursing, cuts the burden on colleges to keep pumping
out nurses who will leave the profession prematurely, cuts the error rates and decreases the overall cost of medical care" or
you can get worked up about in and send multiple pages. If you are sending a letter to your representative slip in a couple of
bucks into the envelope. Remember letters with money trump those that are empty. Whatever you do, please God do
something we need help out here
